Am I part of a new generation?
Gasoline? Gasoline stations? What are they? It is quite possible I may be part of the new generation that will never have the need to know. Back in March we welcomed the new 2011 Chevorlet Volt into our house. It is an EERV or extended range electric vehicle, so we get 40 miles on a charge and then the gas engine kicke as a backup to generate energy for an additional 300 mile range. I'm guessing that by the time I'm driving the technology will be improved such that we won't be importing and burning any of that gasoline stuff at all. Here I am getting a feel for the plug port...

To put things in perspective, my dad's first car was a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker. I couldn't find a good image of the car with a person near it add scale but in my dad's exaggerated memory the hood was nearly as long as the whole Volt. Here it is...
Oh, and it was the same brown color! According to internet sources the fuel economy of the New Yorker was 8.5mpg but my dad tells me his had a carburation problem and he measured about 4mpg in practice (the car did run at 40mph at idle... yes, you practically didn't even have to depress the gas pedal to cruise at that speed).
Oh, and just for posterity, the New Yorker didn't last long the vehicle of choice for college commuting was the 1980's era Chevrolet Citation...
One more (official) picture...

Also, I should point out that it is almost October and we're still using the same take of gas we drove out of the dealer with. By the end of the week, we'll have 7,000 miles on the odometer and only used 6.7 gallons of gasoline or just above 1,000 mpg. Ok, if you count the electricity that is about 100mpge (equivalant cost) but, hey, I like to think that the electricity is comming from a wind turbine and virtually carbon free!

We sure have come a long way in one generation, and we'll see what lies ahead for my generation!

My weekend at Disney and the windpower conference
This weekend I went to Disney and the AWEA Windpower 2011 conference with the family. I mostly enjoyed the sights while my big brother did some of the activities, but I can't wait until I'm big enough to go back and join the fun myself! Here I am up in a treehouse in Disney park...

And here is the whole family at the wind conference, and note we all had our windpower t-shirts on to support the cause...

LabAutomation 2011, Palm Springs
This is a big week for me, I'm going to attend my first conference with my mom. We are at LabAutomation 2011 in Palm Springs. I didn't get to the exhibits or presentations, really just hung out in the hotel, went to the pool, and did some walking around outside. It was quite fun. Here I am enjoying the conference...

Grandma and grandpa
This week my grandma and grandpa came for a visit. They took good care of me, here you can see grandma doing my bath in my new tub (what a big production) and also getting me dried up and dressed in my ABC sleep sack...

Look closely at the top picture, didn't I tell you Big Brother is always watching!
Somehow grandpa escaped without getting in any photos this trip, I'll get him next time!
